I do have a working title for the album, but it’s far too early to reveal that now. What I will say is that it’s a title which can be interpreted in many ways, so can inspire a range of lyrics.
I’m currently working on the first demo song and it has quite a tribal, stompy, upbeat vibe. It has an acoustic guitar ‘riff’ which repeats several times, but what I’m struggling to decide is whether there should be strummed guitars throughout the rest of the song. See, I began my musical career as a guitarist in ‘heavy’ bands, so my compositions will always feel ‘naked’ to me when there’s no guitar – I’m therefore prone to putting guitars where there need not be any. There have been Wolcensmen songs in the past without constant guitar, such as ‘Sunne’ and ‘Hunted’, so it’s just a little psychological barrier to overcome once again.
I always wondered how artists could possibly encounter ‘writer’s block’. A younger me couldn’t imagine having any difficulty composing music I was proud of. I’m not saying that I’m suffering from it (as I said in entry #1, my foundational ideas are already in place) but I do better understand how ‘writer’s block’ can form. As an artist who wants to improve with every release, your standards become ever higher and you reject ideas which feel imperfect, even though they may well turn out beautifully if you let them flourish.
